ANOTHER CON, ANOTHER PLACE

CON CHARITY INFORMATION

UPDATE: July 24, 2008: We are very pleased to announce that our Con Auction raised a total of $3,140.00! Of this, $805.00 was generated through the sale of items from the estate of Barry Morse and will be donated to Parkinson's disease treatment and research. The remaining $2,335.00 will be sent to Sandy Byrne. The sale of any auction items which arrived late and will be auctioned on eBay will also be sent to Sandy Byrne. Our thanks to everyone who bid and won items!

_____________________________________________

Since Space: 1999 conventions began 30 years ago they have proudly operated as non-profit events, with a designated charitable organization receiving a donation of any funds raised at the Con (through, for example, the traditional Charity Auction - please scroll down for a partial list of items donated for our upcoming Auction in Calgary). These charities have included numerous children's hospitals, Parkinson's Disease treatment and research, BookPALS, and others. This year we have the opportunity to raise funds to help pay the final expenses for someone who has given so much to all of us...

Johnny Byrne, who wrote so many of our favorite episodes of Space: 1999, as well as the short film "Message From Moonbase Alpha", passed away on April 2, 2008. The Johnny Byrne Care Fund is raising money to help Johnny's family pay for his medical, care, and final expenses.

All charity funds raised at our Convention will be donated to The Johnny Byrne Care Fund, with the exception of funds raised through the sale of items from the estate of Barry Morse, which will be donated to Parkinson's disease treatment and research.

The following is an excerpt from an April 6th letter from Johnny's wife, Sandy:

"Dear Robert, Thank you for your overwhelming kindness. At the moment we are stunned and unable to take in that JB is not here any more. Your incredible kindness in helping with all the funds we have had to try and raise through this interminable pain and gried is more than I can believe... I would like to write a short piece to be read to JB's legion of fans in gratitude from myself and him too, as I was able to let him know you had dedicated proceeds from the convention to him. I printed out your email and took it to read to him the day before he died... Very much love, Sandy."
